Lagunitas ‘Olde Gnarlywine’ Craft Beer Review
Brewed by 3 Lagunitas Brewing Company
Style: American Barleywine
10.60% ABV
Serve at 48-55°
Availability: winter
Enjoyed from a snifter
A: Pours a ruby red with a dense, creamy head that dissipates to a soapy lacing before settling into a nice collar.
S: Caramel, toffee, dark fruits, citrus zest, loads of sweet malts, candied sugar; big and boozy with a little pine in the mix as well.
T: Man, oh, man! Brown sugar, candied dark fruits, a malt wallop! Apples, piney, subtle citrus rind with raisins mixed in.
M: Thick and creamy, chewy, a little sticky, oily; hardly a hint of booze burn. Awesome.
O: I’m a sucker for barleywine and this brewery, and I also love that $5.99/bomber price tag. This is no Bell’s 3rd Coast, but it is better than most.
