[EMF] Effing Metal Friday: Mastodon Edition

You probably know that Atlanta’s best kept secret, Mastodon, have a new album releasing on June 24, called ‘Once More ‘Round the Sun’. After thoroughly breaking down the new album, all I can think about is Mastodon. I’ve probably listened to the new album at least 20 times this week, and I’m anxious to see fans react. I think a lot of people assumed ‘Once More ;Round the Sun‘ would be the record that marked Mastodon’s gradual transition from sludgy stoner metal to full-on prog metal. I thought that might be the case as well, but there’s a lot of old school Mastodon in there. I think you’ll be surprised. It’s definitely a metal album with prog leanings.

By this time next Friday, the album will be available from 500 different youtube user’s, so maybe I’ll share ‘Aunt Lisa‘ with you. I found a new song titled ‘The Motherload‘, and it’s a perfect reason to love this band. Those fucking tones and riffs, bless you, Mastodon.
