Founders ‘Sweet Repute’ Craft Beer Review

Brewed by Founders Brewing Company

Style: Wheatwine

12.60% ABV

Serve at 50-55°

Availability: Winter (Brewed once)

Enjoyed from a tulip glass

Notes/Commercial Description:
One-hundred percent barrel aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels and bourbon barrels over the course of sixteen months, then blended using carefully calculated ratios for the ultimate final product.

A: Pours a gorgeous murky honey-amber color with a thin off-white head. Very little lacing vanishes quickly.

S: Wow. Tons of bourbon, vanilla, oak, buttered rum, candied pineapple, caramel, grains. Impressive nose.

T: Caramel, pecans, butterscotch, bourbon, vanilla, oak, smoke, toasted grains, honey, booze is present, but doesn’t overwhelm. The grassy hops are the perfect finish to this complex brew.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, silky, creamy; a very pleasurable mouthfeel.

O: This was a total surprise; from finding it on the shelf, to its intricate palate. Founders produce some excellent craft beers and this is just further evidence that Founders deserve your attention in 2014. Good luck finding this one.
