How Do We Feel About the New “Sleepy Hollow” Series from FOX?

Network television fumbles the ball repeatedly and it would come as no shock if this new re-imagined horror series is cancelled after three episodes. I’d like to have faith since Washington Irving’s 1820 masterpiece The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, is one of my all time favorites. Mrs. Luck, my second grade teacher read this to my class one grey, October day, and I was sold. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the team behind the big budget “hit”, The Transformers movie, are responsible for resurrecting this headless fiend that Ichabod Crane found so terrifying. Call me nuts, but it’s going to take a lot of work to even come close to matching Washington’s writing style. I just don’t see something this beautiful happening on a prime time series.

“It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day; the sky was clear and serene, and nature wore that rich and golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance. The forests had put on their sober brown and yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind had been nipped by the frosts into brilliant dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet.”

The series is about a resurrected Ichabod Crane who travels 250 years through time to the present where he finds the world is about to end forever. He’s forced to work with a detective to unravel an ages-old mystery. Okay….regardless, here’s some previews.

  1. I agree with you, I cannot imagine this working out in a television series. The essence of the original story I think would end up being destroyed if you try to do more than simply tell it like it is. Which is why I’m not inclined to check this series out when it premieres. There is point where you bring a classic to life & when you simply toss it in the fire.

  2. I think it will last a season. But they better have a deeper story than just the headless horseman. The apocalypse thing might give it some traction.

  3. I’m starting to believe anything can work on TV now…if you target the right group, especially teen series and just stick in good looking people and some love triangle. So hey, I dig this concept, just wonder how it’ll actually be. I’ll probably end up checking it out šŸ™‚
