This sounds like the soundtrack of 1988, the summer between my graduation and college. Living in a Midwestern town of less than 2,000, there wasn’t a lot to do, so we were all heavily into music. If there’s a better representation (without getting Pink Floyd involved) of chilling out on the hood of my parents’ car with my girlfriend or just close friends, I can’t recall what it is. The flat Illinois land cut a line as far as the naked eye could see, cutting us off from the world long enough for us to do what kids on laying on top of cars do. It could have been anything from poignant introspection to just making out. Regardless, it was a beautiful time and I miss it. These songs are as close as can get now, and it’s not too far off. Happy listening, kids.
