The story follows medical student, Mary Mason, as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted with the surgical world she once admired. The allure of easy money sends Mary into the world of underground body modification – and worse.

Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle Ginger Snaps) is your typical med school student, drowning in student loan debt and always trying to find a way to make ends meet. She responds to an ad at a seedy strip club and meets her destiny. During her interview Mary is approached to save a patron from death. Beaten a little too long and hard for his trespasses, the guy is bleeding out and nearly dead. Mary’s skills prove her a valuable asset and she’s quickly introduced to a client engrossed in the world of underground body modification. As you progress in the film, it becomes obvious that stripping would be a much easier way to make a living. Teased with the huge, cash payments, her one time augmentation leads to her near celebrity status in a dark body mod scene.
Thriving financially and professionally, Mary is invited to a surgeon’s party where she quickly finds the allure of being a mainstream doctor is a dirty, elitist scene. With revenge driving her, she crosses over into dark territory and never comes back. Confronted by a persistent detective, Mary feels the pressure to work smart from there on out.
While I appreciated the film, it reaches a point in the second act that it never recovers from. Filled with gruesome scenes of surgery and intensity, there were a few times I surely cupped my mouth or uttered “Oh, my God..”. Isabelle steals the show, a testament to perfect casting if nothing else. Striking and talented, she’s about the only reason to watch the film. It starts out strong, but runs out of steam in the third act. As much as liked Isabelle, she’s really about the only character you get attached to. The rest of the cast is standard horror movie fare. In the end, this is nothing but a cool entry for isabelle’s Imdb.
