Enjoyed from a snifter
A: Pours a deep dark brown, almost looks like a root beer if you didn’t know better. An inch of creamy mocha head fades to some nice lacing and rotation.
S: Rich chocolate and roasty notes. There’s a definite candied cherry/plum note as the drink warms. I’m getting a light aroma of soft molasses and dark fruits as well.
T: This literally assaults your tongue. A strong roasty wave of molasses, toast, and roasted grains hits first, leaving each entry just perfectly balanced enough to not take away from the style. The dark plum notes came next, mixing their subtle contribution without make the brew overly sweet. The mix is perfect and very original. The bitter, dry finish could lean itself towards even wine characteristics.
M: Heavy-bodied, creamy, lightly acidic, dry.
O: I think if the plum was elevated slightly, it would add a bigger impact. Overall. this is a robust sipper that deserves its own just desserts. Delicious.
