Three Floyds ‘Rye’da Tiger’ (2012) Beer Review

Brewed by Three Floyds Brewing Co. & Brew Pub

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

8.60% ABV

Serve at 50-55°

Availability: Rotating

Enjoyed from a snifter

Remember Rye’da Lightning? This is its double. Think of Ronnie James Dio while you enjoy this double Rye IPA.

A: Pours an attention-getting copper-orange with three fingers of frothy white head. You can actually see yeast rushing around in mid-pour. Hold this up to the light and gently rotate your glass. Beautiful.

S: Sharp rye and grapefruit notes dominate initially. Very piney and citrusy. Lemon, grapefruit rind, tropical fruits and potent floral hops.

T: Dear Lord. Oily with piney/rye bitterness. Tons of citrus, piney hops, very spicy as it warms. Tropical fruits and a solid biscuit note on the warmer end. The very definition of dank.

M: Creamy, oily, almost chewy. Medium-bodied with a lingering hope bite. All I hoped for.

O: Three Floyds are climbing their way to the top of the beer food chain. Time and time again they reinvent and skew DIPAs the way they should be. This beer is absolutely delicious. It’s hard to take this one slow. This is yet another jewel to their already broad and complex line of hop bombs. Simply amazing. Time to go stock up while I can.
