Fister Roboto and Lefthandhorror.com Attempted Buy Out: Rejected

Article by FisterRoboto of lefthandhorror.com

Who would have thought it? Last night I had the “pleasure” of speaking to a guy who worked for a very large and visible horror outlet. I was offered a chance to write reviews and articles for the popular website. Sounds great, right? Wrong.

This offer came with a few stipulations. Let’s take a minute to check them out.

1. The part-time contributor position did have pay involved. A little less than $200 a month.

2. They decide what articles I write.

3. Some horror reviews can’t get less than a “B-” rating, because that impacts their relationships with the studios.

4. The kicker: in order to accept this wonderful opportunity, Fister Roboto and lefthandhorror.com have to go bye-bye.

Do the big sites really consider me a threat? Are my reviews stealing viewers from these deep pockets? In the end it doesn’t really matter because I did not accept this and have no future plans to do so. Money runs the world, there is no point in denying that. While this site is updated daily, it is ALWAYS done out of love and personal passion. We don’t get paid here. Sure, free stuff to review is great, definitely a perk. You guys can always send me cash…I won’t refuse it. 🙂 Maybe someday I’ll attract enough attention to gain some ad revenue, which would rock, but in the meantime, there is NEVER going to be a limit on what can be reviewed here or how good or bad it is. If you suck, I will run your movie into the ground. If you’re great, I’ll tell everyone I know.

I’m not going to burn any bridges today, but I’m certainly not going to open a toll road to cross that bridge either.

Your pal,

Nate

  1. Props man. Never sell out. The horror community needs sites like yours to keep it real.

I am with you 100% on this! I enjoy contributing reviews for the site out of pure passion and love of horror! I would hate to see that go away, we have something special here 🙂

  3. OMG!!! No way!! Well, congrats on being so awesome that they want you, but major BOO to their attempt at taking away my beloved Fister Roboto blog!! I am glad that you didn’t sell out, and that you don’t plan to. You are too good on your own to let them control your writing, what you are allowed to write about and what scores you give movies! It is your honesty that made me come back again and again to your site, and I will continue to be a loyal reader as long as my eyes work!! I have always thought you were awesome and give you mad respect, but after this your level of coolness has been raised a few notches more. Great job on not selling out and thank you!!!!!!! 😉

  4. You are too kind, Justine, all the time. 🙂 I have plans to grow the site, but only on my own terms, Maybe I’ll win the $500 Mega Millions Lottery this weekend and concentrate on LHH full-time.

I would lose it. 8 hours a day to ramble about horror stuff? *Drool*

Brother, that just means you are doing it RIGHT! If somebody wants to make you a partner, that’s one thing. But asking you to cancel your first love is ridiculous. But that’s how these big boys work. It just shows that you have something worth while. The best validation is your enemies respect (and fear).
