Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout Beer Review

Article by FisterRoboto of lefthandhorror.com

Oh, the joys of winter beer drinking. 🙂

$10/Four Pack 12 oz Bottles

Style/ABV: Oatmeal Stout 5%

Serve at 50-55 Degrees F

Enjoyed from a DFH Signature Glass

A: Deep ebony with a slight amber hue when next to a light. Three fingers of creamy tan head from an aggressive pour. Dissipates quickly leaving some very sticky lacing in it’s wake.

S: Dark chocolate, oatmeal, nice roasted malts, some dark fruits – figs maybe – a little cocoa and coffee in the mix.

T: Much like the taste, there is a lot of chocolate/cocoa in there. Some sweetness with a balanced bitterness, a wonderful mixture. I get a little bit of brown sugar and even milk from it. Delicious.

M: Thick and creamy thanks to the oats. This might be the best part of the beer. Well, the taste is great as well.

O: This is a solid go-to stout and one I’m biased towards. I had my first SSOS in a cold parking lot on 12/7/97 in Dayton, OH, while freezing my ass off waiting for a now legendary Phish concert. This beer kept me nice and warm before the doors opened.

This is a little low in the ABV for a stout, but don’t let that change your mind. The taste and creamy mouthfeel make it worth it.
