Dogfish Head “Bitches Brew” Beer Review
Article by Fister Roboto of lefthandhorror.com
Dogfish Head are well known for their desire to try just about anything, and the Bitches Brew release is a great example of how they succeed.
Tasked with creating a brew worthy of the Miles Davis album “Bitches Brew”, DFH set out to create a worthy bottled tribute.
Style/ABV: Russian Imperial Stout – 9% ABV
A: Black motor oil. Hold this one up to a light…nothing gets through. Produces 1-2 fingers of dark tan head that vanishes quickly. I love how the bubbles draw the beer to the top and sits between them, creating a two-layered picture of beauty. Looked so good I couldn’t wait to try it.
S: Chocolate, coffee, tons of malt, a little dark fruit.
T: Lots of chocolate, but more of a milk chocolate than bittersweet, coffee, very earthy with a delicate hop flavor that adds real balance. Very sweet up front, but finishes bitter. Very complex. A welcome addition from DFH’s amazing brewery.
M: Very full and creamy. Near perfect carbonation.
O: Killer brew, DFH. RIS are my favorite of the stout world and this is a welcome selection. The flavors really take charge after it warms up a bit. Having a bomber of this on a cold November night with Miles in the background is well worth the time and money spent. Go grab a bottle.
