The highlight of my week was definitely seeing the re-released Ghostbusters last night. If you wondered if it held up to your original experience some 27 years ago – it does.
The cold and dreary Lexington weather punctuated the movie-going experience on Thursday evening. New and old school nerds showed up in droves to see our quintessential paranormal researchers take on everything from full-body apparitions to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man himself. The crowd cheered as Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis took to the screen for their first overwhelming experience at the New York Public Library, and stayed pumped up for the entire hour and forty-seven minutes.
Ghostbusters never relinquished it’s hold as an impeccable 80’s movie and this re-release just compounds the fact that movies of this quality are getting fewer and far between. If you missed this gem the first time around, I suggest you start googling to see if this is going to show in your city on 10/20 or 10/27. It vanishes like a spectre after the Halloween season is over.
I was lucky enough to run into a real life Ghostbuster last night before the movie. Here is a photo of a member of the Western Kentucky Ghostbusters. They claim they’ve been keeping the Bluegrass “spook-free since 2003”. You can follow them on Facebook at facebook.com/TheRealWKGB.
