‘The Walking Dead’ Season 3 Premiere: Most Beheadings Ever

Spoilers, y’all.

The Walking Dead was at its bloodiest best tonight – right out of the blood-soaked gates. Dripping globs of gore along with a five-minute dialogue-free opening segment, TWD gains its bloodiest brawl yet. Judging by the size of Lori’s belly and Carl’s comicbook-issue head of shaggy hair, it’s clear that things have changed with the passing of time between seasons. The mission at hand becomes the promise of secure lodgings when Rick and Daryl spy the first glimpses of the Georgia prison.

Rick amps the team up and each member of the group brutally incapacitates the walkers aimlessly shambling around the prison gates. Everyone from Hershel to Maggie are beheading walkers, shoving blades into the brains, and systematically decimating the undead. A warm fire and maybe a fresh owl turn out being the group’s reward. Tonight’s episode “Seed”, put Rick’s tactical skill and confident decisions to the forefront. Rick barks out orders throughout the episode, and to everyone’s advantage. This is no longer a democracy after all.

Even Maggie is in on the bloodshed!

More like the comic tonight was shaggy-haired, hat-wearing Carl with the successive head shots. I didn’t wish any bad on Carl tonight, so score one for the writers. Lori reveals some of her baby fears, Carol comically puts the mack on Daryl, showing she’s adjusted a little after Sophia’s death. Tonight’s episodes was a testament of the shows bad ass writing, directing, and never-ending character development. Full of its regular intensity, over-the-top bloodshed, and touching character interactions, The Walking Dead carves a bloody and triumphant premiere episode for the third season. Stick around to see what happens to our newly bitten oldster. If you wanted a dire ending, I’m guessing Hershel’s bitten leg being hacked off by Rick is enough to keep you interested in seeing next Sunday’s episode. If that doesn’t do it for you, maybe the double impaling/decapitating Michonne might be. Excellent debut.
