Article by FisterRoboto of lefthandhorror.com

Brewed by Hoppin’ Frog Brewery

$10.99/bomber

Style: Pumpkin Ale

8.40% ABV

Serve at 40-45

“Enjoyed” from a pint glass

A: Pours a crystal clear copper-orange with a finger of white head. Zero retention.

S: Pumpkin spices, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, nutmeg, and a strange prune juice aroma.

T: Sugary sweet and dry up front, followed closely by the cloves, cinnamon, allspice, and a ginger burn, Oddly enough, for something called “Double” Pumpkin Ale – I don’t taste any pumpkin, just its associated spices. Not very tasty at all.

M: Medium bodied and dry. Much thinner than anticipated.

O: Pass on this one. You can buy a Southern Tier Pumking, DFH Punkin Four pack, or even a Schlafly sixer for less, and they’re all grossly superior. These unusually good pumpkin ales take a lot of work to catch that perfect balance, and this has none. Not even sure I’ll finish the bomber. Surprisingly bad for the brewers of the impeccable DORIS. Did someone let the beer intern mix this batch?
