I love summer. I agree that 100 degree days combined with our creepy Asian ice cream truck driver isn’t really selling it for me. Heat strokes notwithstanding, there is one great reason to love summer: catching up on complete seasons or series of shows I should have been watching already. So, here’s my intent – forget that my life seems to revolve around horror, and understand I have the same kind of well-placed passion for the following shows. These shows are all genius and each for a very unique reason. Get ready for several of these upcoming articles because there’s a shit ton of these stellar shows on my list.
Louie currently in its third season and airs Thursday’s on FX at 10:3opm EST.
Man, what can I say about this guy and this show. I might love Louie as a person. The man is creative, hilarious, sometimes touching, and conveys an amazing sense of warm humility in my opinion. Combine that with a show he writes, directs, and stars in – and boom: instant credibility. Louie doesn’t talk down to the viewer; you either know why this show is brilliant or you don’t. Louie is played by the talented, Louis C.K., a legit standup comic with skyrocketing popularity. I’m ashamed of myself to let this go to season three before I caught on. My wife and I blazed through the first two seasons (available to watch instantly on Netflix) within a week. Once we started, we were straight up hooked, our days were spent wishing we were home watching Louie.
In a nutshell, Louie is a comedian in his 40′s trying to navigate his life as a recently divorced father of two young girls. The show brings a brutal and bleak outlook on life as much as it shows us real moments of tenderness and heartwarming sentiment. Louie can make me navigate from soul crushing dread to uproarious laughter in the span of a minute. Make a serious point to start this blessing of a show immediately. Do it. Do it now.
